This should be a dorm room. It's more of a shambles right now. The bed is turned on its side, legs poking toward the door like a barricade wall. The desk is crammed full of ransacked snacks those that are packaged up or that will keep. The dresser is much the same. Clean clothes in a bag are tucked into a closet. A makeshift line supports two or three coats that are drying.in the air from. The open window. The mattress from the bed and a number of blankets make a nest as far from the door as they can. What few dirty clothes the occupant has are piled in another corner. Strangely enough, pet food bowls and a litter box are nearly immaculate. A thin but happily sleeping dog tales up a small portion of the bed. A large shaggy tomcat sits looking out the window. And a smallish figure swathed in a baggy hoodie is industrious wrapping cord around one end of a piece of metal bedframe pulled from the impromptu barricade.

A magpie starts bouncing outside the window, bobbing playfully as it teases the cat, tapping the window with its beak and making noises. A window opens in the room next door to Sam's dorm and a single long arm reaches down to call the bird back up.
(OOC: The Magpie is one of Tierney's creations.)

The kinked tail of the alley cat lashes and it tries for a grab through the open gap in the frame but spits in frustration as it comes short. The magpie is safe for now. "Too small for any of us but you" a quiet voice comes from below. "Let him be we have food." A hand reaches up and rubs the tiny predator like a kitten. The purr echoes in the room.

The Magpie appeared once more, this time as with a scruffy piece of paper held tightly in its claws as it tap-tap-tapped at the window with its beak. It appeared to be examining the interior with curiosity as it continued to tap insistently to get the occupant's attention.

Sam looked up as the poor turned into a more territorial sound and glanced at the magpie. It wasn't threatening, but the paper looked important. They stood and reached to grip it gently in two fingers. "See, he brought something." The voice sounds almost rusty from lack of use but books nothing but affection for the cat, mean as it looks.

The Magpie tilted its head and let the occupant take the piece of paper. "Ah, so you're my neighbour." A sibilant voice smiled from the left window. "Nice to see Owain's made a friend."
On looking, a lanky boy with a loose mop of white blond curls was seen leaning on his elbows out of the window. He smiled, showing his teeth in a grin and raised a hand to wave. "Nice to meet you too, friend." He said cordially.

The person inside is wearing two shirts at least; baggy around the body and tighter in the arms. Recently washed, but purely Sam Koop in spots and clearly rough used. A billed call sits on chief head and bushy dark hair crowds the space between hat and shirts. One green and one brown eye regard the boy and the cat moves slightly between the two teens, watching this visitor carefully. "I'm Sam. Is this your place? Do we have to go? Please don't be mad at Tobias, he's not used to not hunting." Sams voice is softer, nearly a mumble. They put whatever they were working on behind them carefully, trying not to draw attention.

"Nah, I just moved in a few days ago." he nods to Sam with a reassuring hand gesture, then smiles at the cat as the Magpie hops over to his shoulder. "Cat's gotta cat." He stretched one of his long arms outward, his wrist clicking dully before setting back. "Name's Tierney."

Sam looks at his hand for a long moment before offering one in kind, like this is something observed and not done. At the click, Sams eyebrows furrow quizically. "Broken and then halted? Old Hettie had a elbow like that. She was gone two winters ago."

"Friend of yours?" Tierney asked, as the Magpie landed on his head and peered down and over to Sam with a curious look. "Or family?"

Sam looks at him for a moment, then there is a quick head shake. "She just looked after littles when she could. Then it was really cold one night. She let someone else in line. No room after that. Our spot was too small to get in." Sam just stops talking after that and shrugs. Silence draws out for a little while.
"Haven't had to call a spark since we got here. They want you to clean up so much though." Sam reaches out and hugs the cat. It should mean shipping for a me face but the battle scared alley warrior pure low and deep. "Tobias hated it. But he's so soft now."

"That's the good thing about my power." Tierney smiled. "One wave of my hand and I can make my room look like any image I see, so the people in charge never see it 'disorganised'."

"I know where my warmest clothes are, where the foodbag is, and where Tobias and Ygritte are. Clean more than that and someone takes it." Sam looks at the youth at the window. Their voice, quiet to begin with drops to nearly a whisper. Swallowing hard, Sam asks in a voice shaking with worry:
"Did they come and get you too?"

"Yeah. I was brought here." Tierney confirmed with a fey smile. "Been spending the last two days making my room liveable."

"They told me I was too dangerous to leave on my own. I just found a place underneath the city too. I kept trying to get back until they said I could bring my cat and dog. They said I was doing something else, more than making fires to be warm but I didn't understand. All I know is I understand animals more than people and they like me, and I can make fire if I try hard." Sam looks a bit embarrassed at that. "It's just little ones. Enough to start something to cook or keep warm. I don't think we're dangerous."

"Well, that just sounds sad, not being allowed to go out and about." Tierney nods sympathetically.
