Ambrose awaited Paige to turn up. He had some books out about the history of animal transformation. He avoided the stuff on were-creatures and focused on those history of mages who could turn themselves at will in animals. He thought it might give him some ideas for the future and maybe what he could do once he was sufficiently trained in that magical skill set.

Paige would show up with her laptop bag and wearing her most comfortable and loosest beige cardigan - scientifically proven the body loses heat when in a sedentary state, after all. "Hey." She'd whisper with the proper deference a library deserved.

"Hey Paige, glad you could make it! How are you doing?" Ambrose asked, his eyes lighting up with excitement at seeing her.

She'd press her fingers quickly to his mouth and would look around. "Thank you but do it a little more quietly, please." Looking at him and waiting for his nod of understanding before she'd take her fingers away slowly; quick to slap them back on again.

"I promise I'll be a little quieter," he says in a more normal voice though part of him was enjoying having Paige place her fingers on his lips, "So I'm currently studying animal transformation. Its really interesting,"

She'd nod succinctly, happy with his promise before peering at his book. "I haven't studied that yet, mostly because it's not relevant to me. But I guess it is to you? Or just curious?"

"Very relevant to me!" he grins, "I can turn into a cat and a gull and a dolphin!" he said proudly. He enjoyed turning himself into those animals, it was a lot of fun.

Her face would go slack in surprise. "No way. You can transmutate?" She'd frown slightly in concern. "It's not painful, is it?"

"I can transmutate! It isn't really painful. You know the feeling when you're trying to get into a jumper that's a little crumpled up? It feels something like that. I can only turn into three creatures though. Maybe I'll do more as I improve," Ambrose smiled cheerfully.

"It was sort of by accident? I was playing with Bink one day and was having a lot of fun and I suddenly felt myself begin to shift and kind of kept going," Ambrose said with a grin, "My Mom suddenly found she was missing one son and had gained an extra ginger tom cat,"

"So you were, like... 'Oh, I wonder what being a cat is like.' and then you just.. were?" Her eyebrow flicking up and down a few times at the prospect. "How'd you figure out how to change back? I imagine there would have been a sense of panic."

"Umm it was a little tricky. Like finding your way out of a tunnel while walking backwards?" Ambrose said, "There was a bit of a panic but my Mum realised what was going on quickly and helped me through it,"

“Yeah, she’s very good. Been through a lot of things before and knows people in various magical fields. She’s often busy though helping my Dad with his election campaigns,” Ambrose said, his parents were good to him, “What about your parents?”

“Botanist? Maybe your mother can help if we ever have brew potions. Identify all the plant ingredients for us,” he smiled at her, his blue eyes staring into hers for a couple of moments.

She'd purse her lips in consideration. "No, but he gave me the ability to question morals and that it's best to keep quiet and observe. He said he won a majority of his cases, back when he practiced, simply by observing the tells of his opponent on stand."

Ambrose nodded and realised he had kept staring at her for a while, “Well, yes that’s pretty valuable to question morals.” He said forcing himself to look elsewhere for a time.

“I don’t have a plan. I tend not to plan too far ahead. I guess I’d love to spend a year travelling around the world. That would be so much fun! I’d get to see so much out there,” he said his voice getting loud again.

She felt bad dampening his enthusiasm of his answer and would lightly tap her lips in a reminder to keep his tone down. "That's very admirable. Where would you like to visit? Top three."

“Hmm. Mongolia and ride around the steppes as a horse. East coast America and swim down south as a dolphin. And Japan and be one of those monkeys bathing in a hot spring,” he said proudly clearly having thought about it before.
