(This is how things will go. I am going to post the lesson then ask for questions. I will give people 24 hours before posting again. There is no turn order.)
The Professor who walks out in front of the class has white hair. He is too young for that hair colour. He will stand in front of the class before speaking. "I am Professor Elroy Carbrey of House Tytalus. Welcome to Magical Basics. This is going to teach you to be better Magi. Knowing how magic works is important."
"Now Magic is like an Aspen Tree. The Aspen Tree is notable because it shares a root system. Think of the Pillars of magic as a group of 4 trees that share a common root. This Root of Magic is considered to be a source of power that if we could harness the magic from anyone could use any magic. The trees grow through things we call the Realms. We are currently in the Mortal Realm. Before I talk more about the Realms are there any questions?"

Paige's slender hand would slowly come up, and would start speaking when the Professor indicated she should speak. "Forgive me if I'm not using the proper terminology, but I'm to assume that we all take from this main pillar - if that's the case, what is the dominating form of magic? The one that all of our abilities tie into?"

Willow raises a hand. "Are we going to have some kind of syllabus, so we can prepare ahead of time for future assignments?"

Ezra is already doodling in the margins of their notebook.

He will point to Paige indicating he is answering her. "So the Root isn't like a Pillar. It's like a Foundation. The Seasons are the Pillars and the only magic we have access to. Magic Theory says that the Root is the magic that ties us all together. The Root is in the Realm of Magic. We are in the Mortal Realm. Between us and the Magic Realm is the Divine Realm. the Realm closest to the Root, The Infernal Realm, and above us in the branches of the trees is the Faerie Realm."
"You will be getting a Syllabus sent to your tablet. It should arrive later today." He says pointing at Willow.
He is going to look at Ezra but allow them to doodle. Some people listen better when they are doing something.
He is going to draw four trees on the board, they have one roots that feeds each tree. Around the roots, he will make a box and label it. 'Magic Realm' Above that he will put 'Divine Realm' after that he will put 'Infernal Realm' than 'Mortal Realm', and finally above that in the branches 'Faery Realm.'
"Any further questions?"

Grace slowly and slightly hesitantly riases her hand, she hope she doesn't sound dumb for the question "How.. do we know this.. has anyone been to the other realms.. or is this more like.. a representation of an idea?"

"People have traveled to all of the realms. However no one has ever returned from the Realm of Magic. Non Magi humans can sometimes slip into the Faerie Realm, they can come back changed."

"What sort of changed?" Ezra asks, maybe a bit too eagerly.

"Changes made to persons who have entered the fae realm, Turning to Stone in Sunlight. Physical Features being Changed, Hair, Eye, Skin etc. Animalistic features being gained, including not limited to Donkey Head, Snake Eyes, Hooves for hands. Sex Reassignment and becoming part fae yourself. These fae are called Changelings."

"Yeah, you don't want to get stuck with animal features," Ambrose said, "Or get stuck with their weird food cravings,"

"I would caution against going to the fae realm to receive bodily changes, however I myself was changed in the Fae Realm and it's helped me to be who I am today. I would suggest not going until after you have finished school and doing much research. At the same time not all Fae augmentation is a bad thing."

"So any other questions before we go into the pillars more?" He asks and will start writing down the seasons at the top of the board.

"So there are four basic seasons, Autumn, Winter, Spring and Summer," he writes these things down on the board as he speaks. "When you are born dictated your prime season. If you are born between two seasons your favoured season will slide from either one side or the other, we are currently studying how this occurs but it is hard to pin everything down exactly. Since we don't know who will be a Magi we can't observe Magi births to tell what is going on exactly."

"We will start with the Autumn Pillar, Autumn is connected to the Element of Earth and concepts such as Protection and Wisdom." He will make a list below the pillar. "Earth can also be solids."
|
|

Post by Ambrose Cleland on Oct 6, 2020 22:26:51 GMT
"Do we know why certain concepts are associated with elements, sir?" Ambrose asked with a tilt of his head, though it made sense that Earth could be solids.

"The leading theory is that these concept are contained within the four pillars of creation. The four corners of what makes up all the realms of existence. The belief is that the pillars came first and the Universe flowed from them."

Willow raises her hand. "Pillars of magic, Pillars of creation, are there any more pillars?"
|
|
|
Post by Grace Felton on Oct 7, 2020 21:19:43 GMT
Grace looks quite thoughtful for a time "Does this hold true as well for example in China, where they have a system of 5 basic elements? Earth, Water, Fire, Metal and Wood..."
|
|
|
Post by Admin on Oct 8, 2020 14:18:10 GMT
"In the theory that existence sprung from the pillars of magic, the pillars would be considered also the pillars of creation. Different names same pillars. Different cultures and places have different classifications, Some cultures have micro seasons, some of them have five seasons."

"We are categorizing things in the manner we can comprehend. We've noticed that certain things correlate. In theory, if you could get to the Root you could see how everything really fits together, but no one has ever returned from the Root."

"Are there theories?"
|
|
|
Post by Admin on Oct 12, 2020 15:29:32 GMT
"All we have is theories but they are solid like the theory of gravity. These are all well tested. We cannot know for sure, the Root likely holds the answers. Sorry magic has a lot of rules we've learned but we don;t know anything for complete certain. Something could come a long that will change how we look at magic."
